GETTING THERE
Hacienda El Jibarito is on Highway 445 by marker 6.5 northwest of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. Directional signs are few, and many small roads diverge from 445. Don't hesitate to ask a local for directions if you need them.

AT THE HACIENDA

•The guided tour of the land in an all-terrain vehicle costs $5. It's possible to walk to waterfalls and animal pens, though the road may be muddy. (Annual rainfall is about 100 inches.)

•The coffee shop sells 6-ounce bags of coffee ($4) grown nearby and roasted at the hacienda.

•Altitude is 2,500 feet, and the hotel may be cooler in summer than coastal areas are. But temperatures are similar islandwide and generally Caribbean warm-to-hot.

•Rooms from $129. All-inclusive packages may be available. Senior discounts are offered. Kids 12 and younger stay free.

LANGUAGE

Puerto Rico has two languages: English and Spanish. When you leave the most tourist-heavy areas on the coast, Spanish predominates. But helpful locals, many of them bilingual, ensure that you won't be at a loss for words if English is your only language.
